Gardenia/Koa Jewelry Box #762

This was a custom order for a friend of mine. The body of the box is Koa. The gardenia in the top of the box is made by using a technique called Marquetry — a meticulous art in which tiny pieces of wood are inlaid to create intricate imagery — which is a signature of Shaun’s work. All the pieces are hand cut using a very fine jewelers blade in a scroll saw.

Some of the woods used in the marquetry are Hau, Holly, Figured Maple, Cherry and European Beech.

The drawer and tray are lined with Premium Velvet and the hinges are solid Brass.
