The frame is made of Wenge and Maple. The water is Curly Mango and Holly. The mountains are Koa and the whale is made of an assortment of woods including Walnut, Rosewood, Koa, and Ebony. The sky is quarter sawn European Beech.

Hawaiian Koa is a cherished grained hardwood grown only in the Hawaiian Islands. It is prized for its beauty, rarity and high quality.

Marquetry — a meticulous art in which tiny pieces of wood are inlaid to create intricate imagery — is a signature of Shaun’s work.
Depictions of native Hawai'ian birds, flowers, and sea life add a distinct embellishment with the use of exotic woods such as koa, mango, wenge, walnut, and mahogany.
